KuCoin vs OKX Fee Rebate 2026: 60% vs 20% Auto-Rebate, Net Costs

KuCoin pays a 60% automatic rebate with code FEEOTTER; OKX is 20% automatic + exclusive rewards. Net futures taker 0.024% vs 0.04%; OKX wins on Class C coins.

After rebates, KuCoin costs less than OKX on futures and on major-coin spot. Sign up with code FEEOTTER and KuCoin pays a 60% automatic rebate, all of it refunded by KuCoin; OKX is a 20% automatic rebate + exclusive rewards. The futures taker fee nets to 0.024% on KuCoin and 0.04% on OKX. On 1,000 USDT of monthly fees, KuCoin returns 600 USDT and OKX's automatic rebate returns 200 USDT (fees and rebate rates checked 2026-10-17).

On listed fees OKX is lower: futures taker 0.05% against KuCoin's 0.06%, spot maker 0.08% against 0.1%. KuCoin's weak spot is small coins. It splits spot pairs into Class A, B and C, and Class C costs three times Class A, while OKX charges regular users 0.08% / 0.10% on every pair. If you mostly take liquidity on small coins, the result flips. Neither exchange has a public way to add a code after signup, but OKX has an official rebind application and an inactivity recall.

Quick verdict

  • Futures → KuCoin: the listed taker is 0.01 percentage points higher, but the 60% automatic rebate brings the net taker to 0.024%, against 0.04% on OKX.
  • Major-coin spot → KuCoin: Class A at 0.1% nets to 0.04% after 60%; OKX nets 0.064% maker and 0.08% taker.
  • Small-coin spot, taker → OKX: KuCoin Class C at 0.3% still nets 0.12%, OKX 0.08%.
  • All of KuCoin's 60% is automatic: KuCoin refunds it on every trade, 3× a typical 20% code, and there is nothing to withdraw from us.
  • Large traders, check the cut-offs first: KuCoin's affiliate announcement says invitees at Level 3 / LV4 or above earn no commission; OKX's rules say VIP7 or above. KuCoin's threshold is far lower.

  • OKX spot is the same for every coin: regular users pay 0.08% maker / 0.10% taker on Group 1 (top 10), Group 2 and Group 3 pairs.
  • KuCoin spot depends on the pair's class: majors such as BTC, ETH and SOL are mostly Class A; Class B is 2× Class A and Class C is 3×, so check the class before you trade.
  • The KCS discount covers spot and margin only: 20% off, nothing on futures. KuCoin also says the actual discount can be below 20% because of KCS price moves during conversion.

In money: on 1,000 USDT of monthly fees, a typical 20% code returns 200 USDT, while code FEEOTTER on KuCoin returns 600 USDT. OKX's 20% automatic rebate is 200 USDT; ask support about our exclusive OKX rewards and promotions. Every OKX figure in this article uses 20% only.

On both exchanges the automatic rebate only applies if the right code is entered at signup, and both codes are FEEOTTER. KuCoin settles its 60% directly, outside Fee Otter, so there is no withdrawal request; binding your KuCoin UID on Fee Otter is optional and only confirms you are under our code. Automatic rebates across exchanges are compared in our automatic rebate comparison.

Net rates after the rebate

Formula: net rate = listed rate × (1 − rebate rate). KuCoin uses 60%, OKX its 20% automatic rebate:

ItemKuCoin (60%)OKX (20%)Lower
Futures taker0.024%0.04%KuCoin
Futures maker0.008%0.016%KuCoin
Spot Class A maker0.04% (about 0.032% with KCS)0.064%KuCoin
Spot Class A taker0.04% (about 0.032% with KCS)0.08%KuCoin
Spot Class B maker0.08% (about 0.064% with KCS)0.064%OKX; level if KuCoin uses KCS
Spot Class C taker0.12% (about 0.096% with KCS)0.08%OKX

For example, KuCoin futures taker = 0.06% × (1 − 60%) = 0.024%; OKX futures taker = 0.05% × (1 − 20%) = 0.04%. The KCS column is our estimate of "20% off first, then 60% back": 0.1% × 80% × 40% = 0.032%. KuCoin does not say whether the automatic rebate is based on the fee before or after the discount.

Listed fees and what you actually pay are two separate numbers. OKX's futures taker is a sixth below KuCoin's, but KuCoin refunds three times OKX's automatic rate, so KuCoin's net taker ends up at six tenths of OKX's. The other way round, KuCoin's Class C listed fee is 3× OKX's, and 60% cannot close that gap.

Monthly cost in three scenarios

These are our own worked examples, using the regular-user rates above; OKX counts only its 20% automatic rebate.

ScenarioKuCoin net per monthOKX net per monthDifference
Futures, 500,000 USDT, all taker300 → 120 USDT250 → 200 USDTKuCoin 80 USDT lower
Major-coin spot, 200,000 USDT, all maker200 → 80 USDT (about 64 with KCS)160 → 128 USDTKuCoin 48 USDT lower
Class C small-coin spot, 100,000 USDT, all taker300 → 120 USDT (about 96 with KCS)100 → 80 USDTOKX 40 USDT lower

Method: monthly fees = volume × listed rate; net cost = monthly fees × (1 − rebate rate). In the first row, KuCoin: 500,000 × 0.06% = 300 USDT, 180 USDT back, 120 USDT paid; OKX: 500,000 × 0.05% = 250 USDT, 50 USDT back, 200 USDT paid. The futures row is 80 USDT a month apart, or 960 USDT a year.

Small coins are the only case where OKX clearly wins, assuming both exchanges list the coin. You can see a KuCoin pair's class on the trading page or in the feeCategory field of its public API; BTC/USDT is category 1 (Class A).

Large traders and bots: both rebates have exceptions

  • KuCoin's level cut-off: KuCoin's September 2025 affiliate program announcement says zero-fee trades earn no commission and neither do invitees above a certain level; one passage says Level 3 or above, another LV4 or above (KuCoin affiliate announcement). LV3 takes 16 million USDT of 30-day futures volume, or 6 million USDT of spot volume, or 20,000 KCS held (see KuCoin VIP tiers).
  • OKX's exclusions: OKX's affiliate program rules (updated 2026-09-29) say no commission applies at VIP7 or above, VIP5 and VIP6 have a monthly commission cap of 100,000 (the page gives no unit), and zero-fee coins, special fee rates, market maker and broker accounts, managed sub-accounts, and fees offset with rebate cards or futures vouchers are excluded too (OKX affiliate program rules).
  • API trading: KuCoin's referral page states "API trading is currently not eligible for commission", so bots running through the API earn no KuCoin rebate. The same page lists spot (including margin and trading bots), ETFs and futures as eligible, so the trading bots built into KuCoin's app are covered (KuCoin referral page). OKX's rules page does not mention API trading, and we found no official statement.

If your monthly futures volume is near 16 million USDT, ask before you choose. KuCoin's 60% is the better deal at ordinary volumes, but it may stop entirely around LV3; OKX's 20% runs until VIP7. If you trade large size, contact support to confirm whether your level still earns commission; we can also help you apply for exchange VIP benefits.

Late code entry and rebinding: neither allows it, OKX has more routes

KuCoin: the code can only be entered at signup

KuCoin's referral code stops working once the account is registered, and there is no public way to add one. Since 31 August 2023 every new user must verify identity, and one person can verify only one account. An old account that never completed verification may still have a way: ask support first, then register with a new email, subject to KuCoin's review. Details are in the KuCoin rebinding guide.

OKX: rebind without closing your account

  • Recall after 180 days of inactivity: after 180 days idle, logging in through the FEEOTTER referral link completes the recall rebind.
  • OKX's official rebind application: submit the code for review by OKX, on OKX's conditions.
  • Close the account and re-register: for users outside mainland China, closing an account for the first time releases the KYC for a new account.

Full steps are in the OKX rebinding guide; every exchange's rules sit side by side in our rebinding rules table.

Where each exchange operates

  • KuCoin: its terms of use (updated 2026-09-29) list restricted locations including the United States and its territories, Singapore, mainland China and Hong Kong, Malaysia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Ontario and British Columbia in Canada, France, the Netherlands, and the Crimea, Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions of Ukraine; its futures terms add Australia and Spain for futures.
  • OKX: its risk and compliance disclosure (updated 2026-07-08) lists restricted locations including Afghanistan, Canada, Cuba, Hong Kong, India, Iran, Japan, Malaysia, Nepal, North Korea, Syria, Crimea and the Donetsk and Luhansk regions of Ukraine, certain US jurisdictions and all US territories, and Uzbekistan; Australia, Brazil, South Korea and the UK have restrictions on derivatives and other services.

Lists checked 2026-10-17 and may change at any time. Licences by country are in our exchange licence comparison.

Risks

Both have US enforcement records. In January 2025 KuCoin pleaded guilty to operating an unlicensed money transmitting business, agreed to pay more than 297 million US dollars and to leave the US market for at least two years (US Department of Justice). On 24 February 2025 OKX pleaded guilty to the same charge and agreed to pay more than 504 million US dollars (US Department of Justice). Do not keep large, long-term holdings on an exchange; reserve ratios and how to verify them are in KuCoin proof of reserves and OKX proof of reserves. Futures can lose your whole margin, and a rebate only lowers fees; it does not change whether a trade wins or loses.

Which one should you pick?

  • Mostly futures, ordinary volume → KuCoin. Net taker 0.024% against 0.04%.
  • Major-coin spot → KuCoin. Class A nets 0.04%, about 0.032% with KCS.
  • Heavy Class C small-coin trading, mostly taker → OKX. Net 0.08% against 0.12%.
  • Bots running through the API → KuCoin's referral page says API trading earns no commission, so leave the KuCoin rebate out of your numbers.
  • Monthly futures volume near 16 million USDT or more → confirm KuCoin's level cut-off with support before deciding.
  • You already have an account and do not want a new one → OKX gives you a better chance: the inactivity recall and the official application need no closure, while a verified KuCoin account has no public route.

Once you have decided, sign up with code FEEOTTER. New users can follow the KuCoin referral code guide or the OKX referral code guide; on both exchanges the automatic rebate only applies if the code is entered at signup.
