Exchange Token Discount vs Fee Rebate (2026): Can You Stack BNB, MNT, BGB, MX, KCS and GT?

BNB and MNT cut spot fees 25%, BGB, MX and KCS 20%, GT to 0.09%; OKB gives none. The discount and rebate multiply: 1M USDT of Binance spot drops from 600 to 450 USDT.

You can use an exchange-token discount and a fee rebate together. BNB takes 25% off spot fees on Binance and MNT 25% on Bybit; BGB on Bitget, MX on MEXC and KCS on KuCoin each take 20%; GT lowers Gate spot from 0.10% to 0.09%. OKX's OKB currently can't be used to pay fees. The order is discount first, then rebate: the token lowers what the exchange charges, and the rebate is calculated on the fee you actually paid. For 1 million USDT of Binance spot with a 40% rebate, you pay 600 USDT without BNB and 450 USDT with BNB (verified October 2026).

The most common mistake is adding the two percentages. A 25% BNB discount plus a 40% rebate does not save 65%. The discount makes the fee smaller, so the base for the rebate shrinks too, and the two multiply: 0.75 × 0.6 = 0.45, a real saving of 55%. It also means that the higher your rebate rate, the less extra money the token discount saves.

Exchange-token discounts by exchange

The table is for regular users (VIP 0). "Spot you pay" uses the taker rate, with the formula list rate × (1 − token discount) × (1 − rebate rate).

ⓘ The rebate column shows futures rates; the spot rates that differ are Gate 65% and Bitget 45%, and the "spot you pay" columns already use them. MEXC's 0.05% is the BTCUSDT spot taker rate; maker is 0%. KuCoin charges the full fee first and refunds 20% in KCS, and notes that price moves can make the real discount less than 20%. KuCoin doesn't say whether its automatic rebate is calculated before or after that refund, so the table assumes discount first, rebate second.

Conditions on each exchange:

  • Binance: keep BNB in your spot account and turn on "Use BNB to pay fees". If you don't have enough BNB, you pay the full rate. For VIP users, the 25% applies on top of the VIP rate.
  • OKX: the official FAQ (updated 9 September 2026) says there is currently no OKB fee discount, and OKB trades are charged under the normal rules. Fee tiers depend only on 30-day volume and assets.
  • Bybit: only MNT in a Unified Trading Account (UTA) can be used, and spot and futures are enabled separately. API users, market makers, institutions and Pro users can't use the MNT discount, and it isn't supported for trading bots, copy trading (as a follower) or inverse contracts.
  • Gate: under the fee announcement effective 9 April 2026, the VIP 0 spot rate is 0.10%, or 0.09% when paid in GT; the futures fee table has no GT column.
  • Bitget: keep BGB in your spot account; for margin trading, keep it in the cross margin account. Futures currently have no BGB discount.
  • MEXC: spot uses MX in the spot account; for futures, transfer MX into the futures account first. The MX holding discount and the MX fee deduction don't stack; the system applies whichever is higher.
  • KuCoin: KCS can be in the funding account, trading account or staking. If your spot rate is below the threshold (0.025% / 0.050% / 0.075% for Classes A / B / C), the discount doesn't apply even when turned on.

The order: discount first, then rebate

The fee on one trade is worked out in this order:

  1. The exchange calculates the list fee at your VIP level.
  2. With the token discount turned on, the exchange charges less and takes it in the token.
  3. The rebate returns a percentage of the fee you actually paid. Binance's referral program FAQ says commission is calculated "from the trading fees paid by the referred user".

As a formula:

You pay = volume × list rate × (1 − token discount) × (1 − rebate rate)

Adding the discount and rebate together, or applying the rebate rate to the fee before the discount, both make the result too low.

Worked example: 1 million USDT of Binance spot

Conditions: VIP 0, all taker, list rate 0.10%; the rebate is Fee Otter's Binance rate of 40%. Figures in USDT.

ScenarioFee charged by the exchange40% rebateYou paySaved vs. list
No rebate, no BNB1,00001,0000%
No rebate, with BNB750 (paid in BNB)075025%
Rebate, no BNB1,00040060040%
Rebate, with BNB750 (paid in BNB)30045055%
Wrong method: 25% + 40%NoneNone35065% (not real)

How it is calculated:

  • Without BNB: 1,000,000 × 0.10% = 1,000; rebate 1,000 × 40% = 400; you pay 600.
  • With BNB: 1,000,000 × 0.075% = 750; rebate 750 × 40% = 300; you pay 450.

Turning on BNB cuts the fee by 250 and the rebate by 100, a net saving of 150. The extra saving from the token equals list fee × discount × (1 − rebate rate): 1,000 × 25% × 60% = 150.

Applying the same 1 million USDT of spot taker volume to each exchange (counting only the extra saving from the token):

ExchangeCalculationExtra saving from the token (USDT)
Binance (BNB)1,000 × 25% × 60%150
Bybit (MNT)1,000 × 25% × 60%150
Gate (GT)1,000 × 10% × 35%35
Bitget (BGB)1,000 × 20% × 55%110
MEXC (MX)500 × 20% × 40%40
KuCoin (KCS)1,000 × 20% × 40%80 (at most)

The higher the rebate rate, the less the token discount is worth. With Gate's 65% spot rebate, GT saves only 35 USDT more per 1 million. Whether that is worth holding a coin whose price moves is your call.

How to choose

  • You already hold the token: turn the discount on. With both the discount and the rebate, your total cost is always lower than with only one.
  • You don't hold the token and trade a lot of spot: bind for the rebate first. A rebate needs no coin purchase and no price risk, and it applies to every trade. If you want to save more, decide how much of the token to buy, using the formula above to work out the monthly saving.
  • You mainly trade futures: the token helps little. Binance and Bybit take only 10% off, Bitget futures have no discount, and KuCoin officially lists only spot and margin. The rebate rate is the main difference.
  • You trade on Bybit through the API: MNT can't be used, so only the VIP level and rebate matter.
  • You use OKX: OKB can't pay fees, so savings come from the VIP level and the 20% automatic rebate + exclusive rewards.

Risks

  • Price swings: if you hold BNB, BGB, MX or similar tokens to cut fees, a fall in the token's price can cost more than the fees you save.
  • No balance, no discount: Binance, Bitget and KuCoin all state that you pay the full rate if you don't have enough of the token, and MEXC turns off the deduction automatically once the MX in your futures account runs out.
  • KuCoin's discount may be under 20%: it is refunded in KCS, and KuCoin notes that price moves affect the real percentage.
  • Rules change: OKX has already dropped the OKB discount, and Gate revised its fee table in April 2026. Before a large trade, check the actual rate shown in your account.

FAQ

Can I get a token discount and a rebate at the same time?

Yes. The token lowers what the exchange charges, and the rebate returns part of the fee you actually paid, so they don't conflict. The exception is Bybit, where API users, market makers, institutions and Pro users can't use the MNT discount.

Does turning on the token discount make my rebate smaller?

The rebate amount gets smaller because its base is smaller, but your total cost is lower. In the 1 million USDT Binance spot example, the rebate drops from 400 to 300 and what you pay drops from 600 to 450.

Why doesn't a 25% BNB discount plus a 40% rebate save 65%?

Because the rebate is calculated on the fee after the discount. 0.75 × 0.6 = 0.45, so you pay 45% of the list fee and save 55%.

Does holding OKB still lower fees on OKX?

No. OKX's official FAQ says there is currently no OKB fee discount, and fee tiers depend only on 30-day volume and assets.

Can I use the token discount on futures too?

It depends on the exchange. Binance up to 10%, Bybit 10%, MEXC 20% on USDT-M futures; Bitget futures have none; KuCoin officially lists only spot and margin; Gate's futures fee announcement has no GT column.

If my rebate rate is high, should I still buy the token?

The extra saving is list fee × discount × (1 − rebate rate), so the higher the rebate, the smaller it gets. With Gate's 65% spot rebate, GT saves only 35 USDT more per 1 million USDT of spot taker volume.
