The cheapest way to trade on Binance is to use the BNB fee discount and a 40% rebate together. A regular user's 0.100% spot fee drops to 0.075% with BNB, and after 40% comes back you pay 0.045%, a 55% saving; the 0.050% USDⓈ-M futures taker fee drops to 0.045% with BNB and nets out at 0.027%, a 46% saving. The order is VIP rate, then BNB discount, then a rebate on the fee you actually paid, and under Binance's official rules the rebate only applies from Regular up to VIP2 (checked 2026-10-22).
This guide walks through the order of the three layers, what Binance's own pages say, what you pay on spot and futures at several monthly volumes, and what changes once you reach VIP3. Fee Otter's Binance rebate is 40% (20% paid automatically by Binance + 20% extra from Fee Otter).
The short answer: four setups for a regular user
The table shows Binance's regular-user (VIP0) list fees and what you pay with the BNB discount, the rebate, or both. Spot figures are from the Binance fee page and the 10% futures BNB discount is from Binance's futures fee FAQ, checked 2026-10-22.
| Setup | Spot maker / taker | USDⓈ-M futures maker / taker | Saving vs list |
|---|---|---|---|
| List price, nothing applied | 0.100% / 0.100% | 0.020% / 0.050% | 0% |
| BNB discount only | 0.075% / 0.075% | 0.018% / 0.045% | Spot 25%, futures 10% |
| Fee Otter 40% rebate only | 0.060% / 0.060% | 0.012% / 0.030% | 40% |
| BNB discount + 40% rebate | 0.045% / 0.045% | 0.0108% / 0.027% | Spot 55%, futures 46% |
Rates after the rebate are effective rates (net fee ÷ trade value). The order screen still shows the discounted rate; the rebate is paid back afterwards.
The two discounts multiply; they don't add up: spot is 1 − 0.75 × 0.6 = 55% and futures is 1 − 0.9 × 0.6 = 46%. Adding 25% and 40% to get 65% gives the wrong number.
The order of the three layers, from Binance's own pages
A Binance fee passes through three layers, and the order sets the final figure:
- Your VIP tier sets the list rate. 30-day volume plus a BNB balance put you somewhere from Regular to VIP9; see Binance VIP levels and fees for each tier.
- The BNB discount comes off the VIP rate. Binance's BNB fee discount FAQ (updated 2026-02-06) says "If you are a VIP user, you can receive up to 25% discount in addition to your VIP discount". On the fee page, every tier's "BNB 25% off" column is exactly 75% of that tier's rate.
- The rebate is calculated on the fee you actually paid. The Binance referral FAQ (updated 2026-08-05) says the referrer's commission comes from "the trading fees paid by the referred user" and is now paid on "net fees" (spot from 2026-04-29, futures from 2026-07-15), meaning fees after any market maker rebates.
So the formula is:
Net fee = trade value × VIP rate × (1 − BNB discount) × (1 − 40%)
The BNB discount is 25% on spot and 10% on USDⓈ-M futures.
Binance's pages don't say word for word that the rebate uses the fee after the BNB discount, but they do say the commission comes from the fees the referred user paid, and with BNB turned on, what you paid is the discounted fee. That is also the amount Fee Otter reconciles line by line, and you can check every entry yourself on the rebate dashboard.
Turning on the BNB discount: spot and futures are set up separately
Sign up for Binance through Fee Otter's link
the rebate is decided at sign-up. If you already have an account, see the Binance rebind guide.Spot: keep BNB in your Spot account and switch it on
the FAQ says you must "have BNB in your Spot Account", then turn on the BNB discount under Fee Level on the spot trading page. If your BNB runs short, "you'll be charged the original fee".Futures: move BNB into your USDⓈ-M futures account
the futures FAQ says "Users will need to transfer BNB from their exchange account to their USDⓈ-M Futures Account". If that balance runs short, the fee is taken in USDT with no discount.Check the next day
see whether BNB was deducted on Binance's Fees & Transactions Overview, and whether the day's extra rebate shows up on the rebate dashboard.
Binance's futures FAQ only states the 10% BNB discount for USDⓈ-M futures. It says nothing about COIN-M, so check your own fee page before trading those.
Spot examples at three monthly volumes
Assuming half maker and half taker, with enough BNB for the tier (5 BNB for VIP1, 25 BNB for VIP2). Rates from the Binance fee page, checked 2026-10-22:
| 30-day spot volume | Tier | List fees | BNB only | 40% rebate only | BNB + 40% rebate |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 100,000 USDT | Regular | 100 USDT | 75 USDT | 60 USDT | 45 USDT |
| 1,000,000 USDT | VIP1 | 950 USDT | 712.5 USDT | 570 USDT | 427.5 USDT |
| 5,000,000 USDT | VIP2 | 4,500 USDT | 3,375 USDT | 2,700 USDT | 2,025 USDT |
The spot taker fee is 0.100% from Regular through VIP2; VIP1 and VIP2 only lower the maker fee (to 0.090% and 0.080%). On spot, the BNB discount and the rebate work at every volume, and VIP1 or VIP2 only adds savings on the maker half.
Futures examples at four monthly volumes
Again half maker, half taker. USDⓈ-M futures rates are the ones Fee Otter read from Binance's futures fee page on 2026-09-28 (on 2026-10-22 the futures table only showed after login, so it couldn't be re-read; the VIP1–3 volume and BNB thresholds match Binance's 2026-03-18 announcement):
| 30-day futures volume | Tier | List fees | BNB only | 40% rebate only | BNB + 40% rebate |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1,000,000 USDT | Regular | 350 USDT | 315 USDT | 210 USDT | 189 USDT |
| 5,000,000 USDT | VIP1 | 1,700 USDT | 1,530 USDT | 1,020 USDT | 918 USDT |
| 10,000,000 USDT | VIP2 | 2,800 USDT | 2,520 USDT | 1,680 USDT | 1,512 USDT |
| 30,000,000 USDT | VIP2 | 8,400 USDT | 7,560 USDT | 5,040 USDT | 4,536 USDT |
On futures, BNB takes off 10% and the rebate 40%, so for a futures trader the rebate saves four times what BNB does. In the 10,000,000 USDT row, BNB saves 280 USDT and the rebate saves 1,120 USDT.
At VIP3 and above, the rebate stops
Many traders miss this rule. Binance only pays referral and affiliate commission on invitees at VIP2 or below:
- Spot and margin: Binance's 2023-05-31 announcement says the Standard Referral Mode and Affiliate Program "will only distribute referral commissions from invitees' spot and margin trades when the invitees are VIP 2 or below", and that VIP3 and above invitees "will stop receiving referral discounts" (official announcement).
- Futures: Binance's VIP update of 2026-03-18 says "Affiliates will be eligible to earn Futures commissions from referrals whose VIP status ranges from Regular through VIP 2", effective 2026-03-19 (Binance press release).
Fee Otter's extra 20% comes out of the commission Binance pays us. On days your account sits at VIP3 or higher, Binance pays no commission on it, so neither the automatic nor the extra rebate is generated; once you're back at VIP2 or below, it starts again.
So is VIP3 worth it? Compare taker fees across tiers (futures rates as above, read 2026-09-28; spot checked 2026-10-22):
| Setup | Spot taker, net | USDⓈ-M futures taker, net |
|---|---|---|
| VIP2 + BNB + 40% rebate | 0.045% | 0.0216% |
| VIP3 + BNB (no rebate) | 0.045% | 0.0288% |
| VIP4 + BNB (no rebate) | 0.039% | 0.027% |
| VIP6 + BNB (no rebate) | 0.02175% | 0.0225% |
| VIP7 + BNB (no rebate) | 0.021% | 0.0198% |
For mostly-taker futures traders, VIP2 with the rebate (0.0216%) beats VIP3 through VIP6 and is only matched at VIP7, which takes 5B USD of 30-day futures volume. On spot, the taker fee is a tie at VIP3, while VIP3 is lower on maker orders (0.030% vs 0.036%).
A VIP tier needs both the volume and the BNB balance. VIP3 needs 100 BNB, so with 25 to 99 BNB you stay at VIP2, as long as another route such as Holder doesn't lift you higher. If you trade large futures volume and don't want to hold much BNB, factor this in.
If you're already a VIP on an exchange, or close to VIP3, and want to rebind or sign up on another exchange, contact support. We can help you apply for special trading perks or a higher rebate rate.
