OKX offers four official ways to get a fee discount: reach a VIP tier, place limit orders that fill as maker, use a rebate card from a campaign, and sign up with a rebate code. OKB can't be used to pay fees at a discount today, and holding it doesn't change your fee tier (OKX support center, checked 2026-10-22). A regular user pays 0.050% as a futures taker and 0.020% as a maker; add the 20% automatic rebate and a maker fill nets 0.016%, 68% below the taker list price. With 200,000 USD in assets you reach VIP2, and the futures taker fee nets 0.0288%.
This guide covers the conditions for each official discount, the order they stack in, and what you pay on spot and futures at several monthly volumes. Signing up for OKX with code FEEOTTER gives you a 20% automatic rebate + exclusive rewards. The exclusive rewards have no fixed rate, so the calculations below count only the 20% automatic rebate.
The short answer: five setups for a regular user
The table shows OKX's regular-user list fees and what you pay with maker orders, the rebate, or VIP2 reached through assets. Rates are from the OKX fee page (spot Standard tab, Futures tab), read by Fee Otter on 2026-10-19. On 2026-10-22 the fee page needed a browser to load and couldn't be re-read; the VIP thresholds were re-checked against OKX's VIP page (marked updated 2026-10-15).
| Setup | Spot maker / taker | Futures maker / taker | Saving on a futures taker fill |
|---|---|---|---|
| List price, nothing applied | 0.080% / 0.100% | 0.020% / 0.050% | 0% |
| 20% automatic rebate only | 0.064% / 0.080% | 0.016% / 0.040% | 20% |
| All maker orders + 20% automatic rebate | 0.064% | 0.016% | 68% |
| VIP2 through 200,000 USD in assets | 0.060% / 0.070% | 0.015% / 0.036% | 28% |
| VIP2 + 20% automatic rebate | 0.048% / 0.056% | 0.012% / 0.0288% | 42% (taker) |
Rates after the rebate are effective rates (net fee ÷ trade value). The order screen still shows your VIP rate; OKX pays the 20% automatic rebate back afterwards. The saving column is measured against the regular futures taker fee of 0.050%.
On OKX, maker orders save a bigger share than either VIP or the rebate: the futures maker fee of 0.020% is 40% of the taker fee, and spot maker is 20% below spot taker. VIP, maker orders and the rebate don't conflict, so you can use all three.
The ways OKX lists to cut fees
OKX's How can I reduce trading fees? (updated 2026-09-01) lists four: raise your assets or volume to reach VIP, become an OKX affiliate, join official campaigns, and use limit orders. Add the rebate cards that campaigns hand out and you get this (checked 2026-10-22):
| Method | How much it saves | Conditions | Stacks with the 20% automatic rebate? |
|---|---|---|---|
| VIP tier | Futures taker from 0.050% down to 0.015% at VIP9 | Assets, 30-day spot, futures or options volume; the highest qualifying tier applies | Yes, the rebate is calculated on the fee you pay at your VIP rate |
| Limit orders that fill as maker | Regular futures 0.050% → 0.020% | The order rests on the book and fills later; a limit order that fills at once is still a taker | Yes |
| Rebate Card | Refunds each day's net fees in USDT until the face value runs out or the card expires | Only from campaigns, and only in countries where the card is offered | OKX doesn't say |
| Tradeback voucher | A percentage of trade value (spot) or margin (futures), with a cap | Must be activated, one at a time, only on the pairs listed on the voucher | OKX doesn't say |
| OKB | No discount | OKX says holding OKB doesn't affect fee tiers | Not applicable |
The OKB wording comes from the same page, "OKB can't be used to offset exchange trading fees, and holding OKB doesn't affect fee discount tiers", and from question 22 of the Trading fee rules FAQ (updated 2026-09-09): the platform has no feature for offsetting fees by holding OKB, and OKB trades are charged under the standard rules. Binance's BNB and Bybit's MNT do cut fees; on OKX, buying the exchange token saves you nothing on fees.
Stacking order: VIP, then maker or taker, then the rebate
An OKX fee is set in this order:
- Your VIP tier picks the fee table. OKX snapshots volume and assets daily at 00:00 (UTC+8) and updates tiers between 04:00 and 06:00 (UTC+8); a deposit of 1,000 USD or more triggers an immediate review. Thresholds for each tier are in OKX VIP levels and fees.
- How the order fills picks maker or taker. The FAQ says fees depend on "how an order is executed", not on whether it was a market or limit order. A limit order that matches immediately is a taker.
- The rebate is calculated on the fee you paid. The 20% automatic rebate applies to the fee you actually paid. VIP and maker orders shrink that fee, so the rebate amount shrinks too, but your total cost goes down.
Net fee = trade value × maker or taker rate for your VIP tier × (1 − 20%)
OKX has no exchange-token discount, so the formula has one layer fewer than Binance's or Bybit's.
Futures fees are charged on the value of the fill, and leverage doesn't change them. The FAQ's example: a BTCUSDT perpetual for 1 BTC at 20,000 USDT, opened at 10x with 2,000 USDT of margin, costs 0.05% × 20,000 = 10 USDT as a taker and 4 USDT as a maker. Funding is not a trading fee, and the rebate doesn't apply to it.
How to use all four
Sign up for OKX through Fee Otter's link
code FEEOTTER is built into the link, and the rebate is decided at sign-up. If you already have an account, see the OKX rebind guide.Check the fee line before you trade
Fees in the order panel shows your current maker and taker rate for that pair. Rates shown when logged out are reference figures; OKX says the logged-in figures are the ones that apply.Use limit orders when you're not in a hurry
price the order away from the best bid or ask and let someone else fill it to pay the maker rate. If it's priced so it fills on arrival, you still pay taker.Check VIP if your assets are close
100,000 USD in assets is VIP1 and 200,000 USD is VIP2, with no trading volume needed.Look in My rewards for vouchers
a rebate card applies on its own once granted; a tradeback voucher has to be activated first. Both expire.
Futures examples at four monthly volumes
Assuming half maker and half taker, with assets below the asset threshold, so the tier comes from futures volume alone. Rates as above, read 2026-10-19:
| 30-day futures volume | Tier | List fees (half maker, half taker) | After 20% automatic rebate | All maker + 20% automatic rebate |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1,000,000 USDT | Regular | 350 USDT | 280 USDT | 160 USDT |
| 5,000,000 USDT | VIP1 | 1,525 USDT | 1,220 USDT | 640 USDT |
| 10,000,000 USDT | VIP2 | 2,550 USDT | 2,040 USDT | 1,200 USDT |
| 50,000,000 USDT | VIP3 | 9,500 USDT | 7,600 USDT | 4,000 USDT |
In the 10,000,000 USDT row, the rebate saves 510 USDT, and moving every taker fill to maker saves another 840 USDT. All maker is the best case; in practice some orders don't fill and you chase the price, so most traders land between the middle two columns.
Spot examples at four monthly volumes
Again half maker and half taker, using the Standard spot tab:
| 30-day spot volume | Tier | List fees (half maker, half taker) | After 20% automatic rebate |
|---|---|---|---|
| 100,000 USDT | Regular | 90 USDT | 72 USDT |
| 100,000 USDT, assets 200,000 USD | VIP2 | 65 USDT | 52 USDT |
| 1,000,000 USDT | VIP1 | 737.5 USDT | 590 USDT |
| 5,000,000 USDT | VIP2 | 3,250 USDT | 2,600 USDT |
| 10,000,000 USDT | VIP3 | 6,000 USDT | 4,800 USDT |
If your spot volume is small but you hold 200,000 USD, the asset route gets you to VIP2 more easily than volume does, and 100,000 USDT a month then trades at VIP2 rates. Keeping assets on an exchange carries platform risk; see OKX proof of reserves.
Worked example: 3M futures and 200,000 spot a month
A regular user with 50,000 USD in assets trades 3,000,000 USDT of futures in 30 days (70% taker, 30% maker) and buys 200,000 USDT of spot with market orders:
- List price: blended futures rate 0.7 × 0.05% + 0.3 × 0.02% = 0.041%, so 1,230 USDT; spot 0.1% × 200,000 = 200 USDT; 1,430 USDT in total.
- With the 20% automatic rebate: 286 USDT comes back, so the net cost is 1,144 USDT.
- Then half of futures as maker and all spot as limit maker orders: futures 0.035% × 3,000,000 = 1,050 USDT, spot 0.08% × 200,000 = 160 USDT, 1,210 USDT in total; the rebate is 242 USDT and the net cost is 968 USDT.
- Result: 462 USDT less than the 1,430 USDT list price, a 32.3% saving.
If the same trader tops assets up to 200,000 USD and reaches VIP2, with everything else unchanged, fees become 765 USDT on futures and 120 USDT on spot, and the net cost after the 20% automatic rebate is 708 USDT. Whether to leave another 150,000 USD on an exchange for VIP2 is a question about the safety of your money first, and about fees second. To run your own numbers, use the effective fee rate calculator.
Rebate cards and tradeback vouchers: rules and limits
Rebate Card
From the OKX Trading Rebate Card terms (updated 2026-08-26):
- Each card has a face value and a validity period. Once granted, your daily fees (00:00 to 23:59 UTC+8) are refunded to your Funding account in USDT the next day, until the face value is used up or the card expires.
- The refund is the day's net fee, after any maker rebates from negative fee rates.
- Cards go to the main account only, but fees from sub-accounts are refunded too. With several cards, the one with the shortest validity is used first.
- OKX says the card only applies in countries where it's available.
Tradeback voucher
From the Tradeback voucher FAQ (updated 2026-08-14): the reward follows the voucher's rate and cap, based on trade value for spot and on margin for futures. You activate it in My rewards, only one can be active at a time, and activating a new one deactivates the old one. Eligible products and pairs are listed in the voucher details (OKX's examples use USDG pairs), and trades made with a Trading Bonus don't count.
Both are campaign rewards, not standing fee rates: whether you get one, and for how much, depends on the campaign running and your region. OKX also doesn't say whether fees refunded by a card or voucher still count toward the referral rebate, so while you use one, go by the rebate records in your account.
Routes that look fee-free
- Convert and express Buy/Sell: question 7 of the FAQ says these quote one all-in price. The gap between the buy and sell quote is the cost; it just isn't listed as a fee.
- P2P: OKX charges no trading fee on P2P trades, but they don't count toward 30-day volume, so they don't help you reach VIP.
- Stablecoin pairs: pairs such as USDC/USDT and PYUSD/USDT have their own fee tab and don't count toward VIP volume.
OKX also says fees on filled orders can't be refunded (FAQ question 28), so the saving has to be decided before you place the order.
Service regions and risks
OKX doesn't serve every country or region. It also notes that fees and benefits can vary by region, and rebate cards are offered only in some countries; for the four big exchanges side by side, see Binance, OKX, Bybit and BingX restricted countries. Futures use leverage and losses can be larger than you expect; low fees don't make up for a wrong call on direction. Don't add trading volume or move long-term savings onto an exchange just to reach a VIP tier.
FAQ
Does OKX have a trading fee discount?
Yes, though not through its token. The official routes are VIP tiers, limit orders that fill as maker, rebate cards from campaigns, plus the rebate you lock in at sign-up. A regular user's 0.050% futures taker fee becomes 0.016% net with maker orders and the 20% automatic rebate.
Can I get an OKX fee discount by holding OKB?
No. OKX says OKB can't be used to offset trading fees and holding it doesn't affect fee tiers (checked 2026-10-22).
Can I get OKX VIP rates and a rebate at the same time?
Yes. The rebate is calculated on the fee you pay at your VIP rate. VIP2's 0.036% futures taker fee nets 0.0288% with the 20% automatic rebate.
Is an OKX limit order always a maker order?
No. OKX charges by how the order fills. A limit order that matches right away is a taker; one that rests on the book and fills later is a maker.
How do I get an OKX rebate card?
Only through official campaigns, and only in countries where the card is offered. Once granted it shows in My rewards, and your fees are refunded in USDT to the Funding account the next day.
What is the lowest fee on OKX?
The table bottoms out at VIP9: 0.015% futures taker and −0.005% maker. The combination most individuals can reach is VIP2 with the 20% automatic rebate: 0.0288% futures taker and 0.012% maker.
