Whether a sub-account's trading fees earn a rebate depends on whether the exchange spells it out. Binance and BingX state it clearly: commission on fees paid by a sub-account goes to the main account's referrer. Bybit only says, in its regular referral program explainer, that trades from sub-accounts, copy trading accounts and bot accounts count; its affiliate program explainer doesn't say. OKX only says that trades in managed sub-accounts earn no rebate, with nothing written for regular sub-accounts. Gate, Bitget, MEXC and KuCoin say nothing in their referral and affiliate explainers about who sub-account fees count toward. Bybit and MEXC also state that only the main account can add a referral code later, not a sub-account (verified October 2026).
A common misunderstanding is that every sub-account needs its own referral code and its own UID binding. On the exchanges that say anything, the referrer follows the main account: Binance and BingX credit sub-account commission to the main account's referrer, and Bybit and MEXC only let the main account add a code later. So when you bind for a rebate, submit the main account's UID. What goes wrong more often is the order of steps: the main account skipped the referral code, then sub-accounts were opened, connected to an API and started running strategies, and by the time you think of binding, the add-later deadline has passed. A sub-account can't add a code itself, so the only fix is through the main account, and the fees already paid won't earn a rebate.
Sub-account and referral rebate rules by exchange
| Exchange | Do sub-account fees count for the main account's referrer? | Can a sub-account bind its own referrer? | Other relevant rules |
|---|---|---|---|
| Binance | Yes. Binance states sub-account trading commission counts toward the main account's referrer | No. Sub-accounts can't invite new users | Once a referral is set up, it can't be changed or removed |
| OKX | Regular sub-accounts: not stated. Trades in managed sub-accounts earn no rebate | Not stated | The regular referral program says sub-accounts can't take part, can't receive rewards and can't be invited; sub-accounts use the main account's fee tier from 24:00 (UTC+8) on the day they are created |
| Bybit | The referral program explainer says yes, including sub-accounts, copy trading accounts and bot accounts; the affiliate program explainer doesn't mention sub-accounts | No. Only the main account can add an affiliate code, within 14 days of sign-up | The referral program combines main and sub-account trading volume |
| Gate | Not stated | Not stated | Sub-accounts use the main account's VIP level and fee discounts, and their volume counts toward the main account |
| Bitget | Not stated | Not stated | The referral campaign rules say sub-accounts can't be counted as separate accounts |
| MEXC | Not stated | No. Self-service referrer binding is for main accounts only, within 30 days of sign-up | Referral commission is calculated on the invitee's net fees, for 1,080 days |
| BingX | Yes. BingX states commission data includes the trading volume and commission of the main account and all sub-accounts | Not stated | Sub-accounts can't join campaigns or claim rebate vouchers, trial funds or other vouchers |
| KuCoin | Not stated | Not stated | The referral program says sub-accounts can't take part; accounts without identity verification can't trade through sub-accounts |
| Pionex, WEEX, XT.COM, HTX, CoinW, Ourbit | Not stated | Not stated | Not stated |

"Not stated" means that none of the referral, affiliate and sub-account pages we checked mention the point, not that the exchange doesn't count it. On those exchanges, whether sub-account fees reach your rebate is shown in Fee Otter's daily settlement records.
Is binding the main account's UID enough?
When you bind for a rebate, submit the main account's UID. Sub-accounts sit under the main account, and Binance and BingX state that sub-account commission goes to the main account's referrer, so you don't need to submit each sub-account's UID.
A few cases need separate handling:
- Separately registered accounts: an account registered with a new email or phone number is another main account with its own referrer. Enter the referral code when you register it, then bind its UID on Fee Otter.
- OKX managed sub-accounts: OKX states they earn no rebate, so binding the main account doesn't change that.
- Exchanges that don't say: if you trade mainly in a sub-account, place one small order there first, then check the settlement records on the rebate site the next day to see whether that fee shows up. If it doesn't, contact support to check where it was credited.
What goes wrong if sub-accounts come before the referral code
The common mistake in order goes like this: the main account registered without a referral code, a few sub-accounts were opened, APIs were connected and bots started running, and only later did the rebate come to mind. At that point three things happen.
- A sub-account can't fix it on its own. Bybit states only the main account can add a code later, and MEXC's self-service referrer binding is limited to main accounts. Binance sub-accounts can't even invite new users. Any fix has to come from the main account.
- Adding a code later has a deadline. If the main account is still within the window and has no referrer yet, it can add one: Binance 30 days (no deposit and no trade yet), MEXC 30 days, Bybit 14 days. OKX, Gate and Bitget have no public way to add one later. After the deadline, the main account can only be rebound; see the add-later and rebinding rules table for each exchange's method.
- Rebinding means a new main account. Most rebinding methods mean registering a new account with the referral code. Sub-accounts under the old main account don't move with you; you have to reopen them under the new main account, recreate the API keys and set the strategies up again.
One more point: no exchange says whether sub-accounts created before the main account added a code will count for the new referrer. After adding the code, place a small order in a sub-account and check the rebate site the next day.
The right order is: register the main account with the referral code, bind the main account's UID on Fee Otter, then open sub-accounts and start trading. Also, Fee Otter's extra rebate only counts fees generated after the UID is bound, and nothing is paid back for earlier fees; the exchange's automatic rebate starts from sign-up with the referral code.
Worked example: three accounts trading together
Say you trade on Binance with one main account and two sub-accounts, and the main account was registered with the referral code and its UID is bound. One month's trading fees:
| Account | Use | Fees this month (USDT) |
|---|---|---|
| Main account | Manual trading | 20 |
| Sub-account A | Grid bot | 150 |
| Sub-account B | API strategy | 50 |
| Total | 220 |
Calculation: rebate = total fees of the three accounts × rebate rate. Binding Binance through Fee Otter gives 40%, in two layers:
- Binance automatic rebate, 20%: 220 × 20% = 44 USDT, refunded by Binance straight to your account.
- Fee Otter extra rebate, 20%: 220 × 20% = 44 USDT, which builds up on Fee Otter and is withdrawn over BEP20. The 0.015 USDT network fee is paid by you, so you receive 44 − 0.015 = 43.985 USDT.
That is 88 USDT in total, or 87.985 USDT after one withdrawal network fee.
Now suppose sub-account A's bot ran for 10 days before the main account's UID was bound and paid 50 USDT in fees. Because the main account was registered with the code, Binance's automatic 20% still comes back, but those 50 USDT get no Fee Otter extra rebate, so you miss 50 × 20% = 10 USDT. If the main account had no referral code at all, you would get neither layer.
How to choose
- Not registered yet: register the main account with the referral code, bind the main account's UID, then open sub-accounts.
- Main account exists without a code, still within the add-later window: add the code from the main account, not from a sub-account. Then bind the main account's UID.
- Past the window, or the main account already has another referrer: follow the exchange's rebinding method to open a new main account with the referral code, then reopen sub-accounts under it.
- Strategies spread across several accounts: use sub-accounts where you can, so you only bind one UID. Each separately registered account needs its own referral code and its own binding.
- Mainly OKX managed sub-accounts: that part earns no rebate; rebates only come from accounts you trade yourself.
