KuCoin copy trading covers USDT-margined perpetual futures only, with two modes: Fixed Ratio opens positions in proportion to the lead trader's margin, and Fixed Amount uses the same margin on every trade. You can put 10 to 10,000 USDT into copying and follow up to 10 lead traders at once. Lead traders take at least 10% of your profit, settled daily at 00:00 UTC and charged only on new realized gains. Copy trades pay normal futures fees at your own VIP level, and if you sign up with code FEEOTTER, KuCoin automatically returns 60% of those fees (checked 2026-10-17).
This guide is based on the four official articles in the "Copy Trading" section of the KuCoin Help Center. It covers how the two modes size your positions, the amount and leverage limits for copiers, the high-water-mark profit-sharing formula, why copies fail, and how to apply as a lead trader. A 500 USDT example then puts fees, profit sharing and the rebate side by side. Every copied open and close is a futures fill in your own account: sign up on KuCoin with our code FEEOTTER and get a 60% rebate (all paid automatically by KuCoin), 3× the 20% most referral codes give.
Key points
- Futures only: the official FAQ lists 100+ USDT-margined perpetual pairs; the official pages describe no spot copy trading.
- Separate account: copy funds move from your spot account into a dedicated copy trading account, apart from your futures account.
- Amounts: 10 to 10,000 USDT in total; in Fixed Amount mode, 10 to 10,000 USDT per trade.
- Leverage: follow the lead trader or set a fixed 1x to 20x; the FAQ says copying supports isolated margin and one-way mode only.
- Profit sharing: at least 10%, settled daily, only on cumulative realized profit above the last high.
- Slippage protection: fixed at 0.5% for every pair; copiers can't change it.
How the two copy modes work
| Mode | How your position is sized | Official example |
|---|---|---|
| Fixed Ratio | Copy ratio = your margin balance ÷ the lead trader's margin balance | The lead uses 500 of 1,000 USDT (50%); with 500 USDT you open with 250 USDT, possibly less after slippage |
| Fixed Amount | The same margin on every trade | 100 USDT in total at 20 USDT per trade allows up to 5 trades at once; a per-trade amount below the contract's minimum fails |

You only copy positions the lead opens after you start following; positions the lead already holds are not added to your account.
Copier rules at a glance
| Item | Rule |
|---|---|
| Lead traders you can follow | Up to 10; a lead trader can also follow up to 10 |
| Total copy amount | 10 to 10,000 USDT |
| Fixed Amount per trade | 10 to 10,000 USDT |
| Leverage | "Follow Lead Trader" or "Fixed Multiple" from 1x to 20x |
| Margin mode | The FAQ says isolated margin and one-way mode only |
| Slippage protection | 0.5% for all pairs, not adjustable |
| Opening orders | When the lead's order fills, you get an IOC order limited to the slippage range |
| Closing orders | Always market orders |
| Stop copying | Open positions close at market right away; after profit sharing settles, the rest returns to your spot account |

The margin-mode row has a conflict: a 2026 lead trader campaign article and the copy trading API docs both show cross margin and hedge mode settings, while the Help Center FAQ for copiers still says isolated only. The official pages don't say clearly whether copiers can use cross margin now, so go by what the order page shows.
Take-profit and stop-loss: an official KuCoin article from November 2025 says copiers can set a separate total stop-loss and total take-profit for each lead trader they follow. The Help Center copier guide doesn't mention this.
Why a copy fails, or your returns differ from the lead's
The official FAQ lists these reasons a copy can fail:
- Not enough margin in the copy trading account.
- The fill price is outside the 0.5% slippage range.
- The converted size is below the contract's minimum order size.
- The position margin limit is reached, or the contract's risk limit is exceeded.
- The lead's limit order didn't fill; any unfilled part is cancelled.
- The price is outside the matching price protection range.
The copier guide adds two warnings: when the lead adds margin, your risk can end up higher than the lead's, and in Fixed Amount mode frequent margin adds or many open positions make failures more likely. The return on a lead trader's profile is the lead's own; yours will differ because of slippage, missed copies and fees.
How profit sharing works: only on new profit
According to the KuCoin Lead Trader's Guide to Futures Trading (updated July 2026), profit sharing settles daily at 00:00 UTC and is paid to the lead trader's spot account. It is based on your cumulative realized PnL after trading fees, funding fees and taxes:
Lead's share = (cumulative realized PnL − PnL already shared) × sharing ratio. If cumulative realized PnL is not above the PnL already shared, the share for that day is 0.
| Day | Cumulative realized PnL | Share that day (10%) |
|---|---|---|
| Day 2 | +300 USDT | 30 USDT |
| Day 3 | +50 USDT | 0 |
| Day 5 | +400 USDT | (400 − 300) × 10% = 10 USDT |
The table is the example from the official guide. In other words, after a drawdown your account has to climb back above the previous high before the lead earns a share again. If an open position blocks settlement, it moves to the day the position closes, and settlement also runs when you stop copying or the lead stops lead trading.
On the ratio itself, the official FAQ only says lead traders earn "at least 10%" of copiers' profit. A lead trader campaign in April and May 2026 listed tiers from 10% to 30%, but it has ended; the official pages don't state the current standing maximum or whether lead traders set the ratio themselves.
Copy trading fees and the rebate
The official FAQ says copy trading fees follow the normal futures rates for your KuCoin VIP level. KuCoin's public futures API lists the BTCUSDT perpetual (XBTUSDTM) at 0.02% maker and 0.06% taker (KuCoin futures API, checked 2026-10-17). Copy opens are IOC orders and closes are market orders, so in practice most copier fills pay taker.
The same FAQ says referrers earn commission on the trading fees of both lead and copy trades, so copy fills count toward the rebate. Sign up on KuCoin with code FEEOTTER and KuCoin returns 60% to your account automatically. Fee Otter has no extra layer on KuCoin, so there's nothing else to do, and a taker fill drops from 0.06% to an effective 0.024%. Profit sharing paid to the lead isn't a trading fee and isn't covered by the rebate, and neither is funding.
