When an exchange account looks "frozen" and the withdraw button won't work, it is usually a time-limited security hold that lifts on its own. After you change your login password, 2FA, phone or email, Binance, OKX, Bybit, Bitget and Gate all pause withdrawals for 24 hours, and Binance's 2FA reset or phone change can take up to 48 hours. Next most common: KYC not finished, a risk review (Binance says up to 24 hours, OKX 48 hours for a high-risk address), money still tied up in margin or Earn, or the chain under maintenance. A true freeze ordered by police or a court is different: the exchange generally can't tell you the details and you have to go to the authority itself (official pages checked 2026-10-17).
Before you go looking for anyone who promises to "unfreeze" you, know that most cases only need time or a missing document. Below are the holds each exchange documents, sorted by cause, followed by a self-check order, a worked timing example and what to have ready for support.
Quick answer
- You changed a security setting: wait 24 hours (up to 48 hours for a Binance 2FA reset or phone change). It can't be lifted early.
- KYC isn't finished: OKX and Bitget both say withdrawals need completed identity verification. Finish it and the hold goes.
- Risk review: Binance's anti-scam cool-down lasts up to 24 hours and Binance says it never freezes funds permanently for scam risk; OKX lists 48 hours for an address flagged as high risk.
- The money is in use: funds in futures margin, open orders, Earn or a sub-account must be released or moved back to the main account first.
- Law-enforcement freeze: the exchange can't share details; contact the authority that issued the order.
- Anyone asking you to pay first to "unfreeze" is almost certainly a scammer.

Binance's phone-change page gives both 24 hours and up to 48 hours; its email-change page says up to 24 hours since its 2026-10-14 update. These holds usually cover more than on-chain withdrawals, including internal transfers, P2P selling and payment features.
In every case the official pages say the hold lifts automatically when the time is up, and support can't open it early. A 2020 Binance help page said the same thing: a withdrawal suspension after a security change cannot be lifted before the period ends.
Didn't change anything? Other likely causes
- Identity verification not done or still pending: OKX says withdrawals require verification; Bitget says applications are usually approved within 24 hours.
- Funds in use: money in futures margin, unfilled orders, a live P2P trade, copy trading or Earn (fixed term or staking) can't be withdrawn directly. OKX also notes that sub-account funds must go back to the main account first.
- T+N after a P2P purchase: OKX applies a risk-based T+N hold on coins bought via P2P, which lifts on its own.
- A deposit still confirming: OKX says you can't withdraw while your latest deposit lacks enough confirmations. Its double-spend control only restricts the deposited amount.
- Flagged address: Binance shows warnings for suspicious addresses and may pause withdrawals, typically for up to 24 hours and never permanently. OKX lists 48 hours for a high-risk address.
- Chain or coin maintenance, or delisting: check the exchange's deposit and withdrawal status page or announcements.
- 24-hour withdrawal limit reached: OKX and Bitget both set limits by account level, and the withdrawal page shows what is left.
A real freeze: law enforcement or regulators
Binance states that it cannot freeze any user's assets on its own without an official freezing order from law enforcement or a competent court. What passes between Binance and the authorities is confidential, support can't share it, and you should contact law enforcement directly for updates. If you are the victim of a theft, it is up to you to report to your local police and obtain the freezing order (Binance: how to report stolen funds). Seen from the other side, if your own account is frozen under such an order, support can usually only point you to the authority that issued it.
Anyone who says you must pay an "unfreeze fee", a "deposit" or "tax" before you can withdraw is almost certainly a scammer. A real exchange hold is never lifted by sending more money. Support contacts you inside the official app or website and won't ask you to transfer to an address. Binance also states its anti-scam cool-down lasts up to 24 hours and it won't freeze funds permanently over scam risk.
A worked example: when can you withdraw after changes?
Say at 10:00 on Monday you change your Binance login password, and at 10:30 you change your phone number:
- Password change: 24 hours, until Tuesday 10:00.
- Phone change: up to 48 hours, until Wednesday 10:30.
- Both holds run at once and the later one wins, so you can withdraw by Wednesday 10:30 at the latest.
The same two changes on OKX: 24 hours each, so Tuesday 10:00 and Tuesday 10:30, and the latest is Tuesday 10:30. Don't touch any security setting a day or two before you need to withdraw; if you must, change it and then wait a day.
Sent on the wrong network or without a memo?
- Binance: deposits with a missing or wrong tag/memo can be recovered through self-service, only for coins currently listed on Binance. The recovery fee is the transaction fee of that coin, and if what is left after the fee is below the minimum withdrawal, it can't be recovered. Binance does not promise success (official page).
- OKX: for the wrong address or network, file a support ticket; OKX states there is no guarantee it can recover the crypto (official page, updated 2026-09-04).
Deposit and withdrawal details by exchange: Binance, OKX, Bybit, Bitget, Gate. Network fees are in the USDT withdrawal fee comparison.
Self-check order, and what to have ready for support
- Read your notifications: in-app messages, your registered email and the spam folder. OKX says other freezes or restrictions are explained by email.
- Think back 48 hours: if you changed a setting, wait it out per the table.
- Read the withdrawal page message: most exchanges state the reason and the time left.
- Check where the money is: futures, Earn, a sub-account or open orders.
- Check the status page: is that coin or network under maintenance?
- Contact official support: have your UID, when the problem started, the coin and network, the TxID (for deposit issues) and screenshots. Use only the support entry inside the official app or website.
What happens to your rebate while the account is restricted?
A temporary withdrawal hold doesn't change your binding. The exchange's automatic rebate goes straight into your exchange account and can be withdrawn once the hold lifts. Fee Otter's extra rebate is settled daily after the 16:00 (UTC+8) refresh, listed line by line on the rebate dashboard, and paid on request as on-chain USDT on BEP20 to the address bound to your account: your first address works right away, and any address you add later waits through a 24-hour cooling period. The minimum is 1 USDT per request, the 0.015 USDT network fee is yours, and every payout can be checked on BscScan. This doesn't go through an exchange withdrawal, so an exchange-side hold doesn't affect it.
Rebates only start counting once you register with a referral code and bind your UID on Fee Otter (Gate's code is FEEOTTER). On BingX, registering with the code gets you 45% automatically, all paid by BingX, with no UID binding needed. The account number you bind is explained in how to find your exchange UID, settlement in how fee rebates are settled, and safety in is a crypto fee rebate safe.
