Bybit gives you two ways to trade gold and forex, and they charge very differently. The MT5 CFD account defaults to Zero-Fee mode, with no separate fee because the cost sits in the spread; switch to Tight-Spread mode and you pay a commission per lot: $6 on forex and metals, $3 on oil and $0.02 on US stock CFDs (minimum $0.2 per order). The other route is TradFi Perpetual Contracts on the futures page (gold, oil, US stocks and more), which pay the same fees as regular USDT perpetuals, 0.02% maker and 0.055% taker at VIP0 (checked 2026-10-22). On rebates, Bybit's affiliate terms base commission on "fees" without naming CFDs or TradFi, so whether the 40% rebate you get by binding code FEEOTTER on Fee Otter covers these trades has to be checked in your rebate records; the official wording is quoted below.
This guide is based on Bybit Help Center articles on CFDs, MT5 and TradFi Perpetuals. It covers how the two products differ, how to choose between the two account modes, how per-lot commissions and swaps are calculated, when positions get closed out, and our own cost example. Bind code FEEOTTER on Fee Otter for a 40% rebate on Bybit trading fees, 2× the 20% most codes give.

MT5 CFD account modes: Zero-Fee vs Tight-Spread
| Item | Zero-Fee mode (default) | Tight-Spread mode |
|---|---|---|
| Execution model | STP | ECN |
| Trading fee | None charged separately; the cost is in the displayed spread | Raw spread plus a fixed commission per lot |
| Bybit's example | Displayed spread of 1.3 pips, commission included | Raw spread of 0.1 pip, commission charged separately |
| Symbols | Unified ".s" suffix, e.g. EURUSD.s | Varying suffixes, e.g. EURUSD+ |
| To switch | Default on opening | Cumulative deposits of at least $3,000, and no open orders or positions |
Bybit describes Zero-Fee as suited to manual, lower-frequency traders and Tight-Spread to professional, algorithmic or high-volume traders. In Zero-Fee mode the cost is built into a wider spread, so compare the two modes on spread plus commission. The TradFi Combo bot only supports Tight-Spread mode.
Tight-Spread commission per lot
| Category | Max leverage | Commission |
|---|---|---|
| Forex | 500:1 | $6 per lot |
| Metals (gold, silver) | 500:1 | $6 per lot |
| Commodities | 20:1 | $3 per lot |
| Oil | 500:1 | $3 per lot |
| Index: Nikkei225 | 500:1 | $0.1 per lot |
| Index: HK50 | 500:1 | $1.5 per lot |
| Index: HKTECH | 500:1 | $0.5 per lot |
| Other contracts | 500:1 | $3 per lot |
| US stock CFDs | 5:1 | $0.02 per lot, minimum $0.2 per order |
Source: Bybit CFD fees explained, checked 2026-10-22; only some indices are listed here, and the official page has the full list. Commission = lots × commission per lot, deducted from the MT5 CFD balance in one go when the position opens; after closing, the details are under Completed Orders. Bybit's examples: 0.20 lots of the SP500 index costs 0.20 × 3 = 0.60 USDx; 1 lot of AAPL works out to 0.02 USDx but is below the per-order minimum, so 0.20 USDx is charged.
When you open a position, the system checks only that your margin is sufficient and leaves the commission out. Bybit warns that because the commission comes straight out of the balance, a high commission could trigger an immediate close-out. Small, highly leveraged accounts should watch this.
Swaps, the 3-day swap and dividend adjustments
- When: charged on positions held past 00:00 MT5 server time. Bybit says the terminal runs on UTC+3, changing to UTC+2 after daylight saving ends, which is 5 am or 6 am UTC+8.
- How: forex, metals, oil and commodities by points (lots × units per lot × smallest digit × swap rate × days); indices by money (swap × lots × days); US stock CFDs by percentage (quantity × share price × annual rate ÷ 360). Rates can be negative (a charge) or positive (a credit) and differ for long and short; check the contract info page.
- 3-day swap: markets are closed at weekends but interest still accrues, so Bybit charges triple swap on one weekday, usually Wednesday per Bybit; its own index example uses Friday, so check the contract info page.
- Dividends: when constituents pay dividends, long index or US stock CFD positions are credited and short positions are debited.
- Booking: swaps show in equity right away and in the balance only after the position closes.
TradFi Perpetual Contracts: priced like regular USDT perpetuals
TradFi Perpetuals are USDT-denominated and USDT-settled, with the same margin, funding and liquidation mechanisms as regular USDT perpetuals. Fees follow the USDT perpetual schedule with VIP discounts (0.02% maker, 0.055% taker at VIP0 per the Bybit trading fee structure, updated 2026-09-02). The pricing differs: while traditional markets are closed, the index may temporarily drop components whose prices stop updating, and the mark price may deviate from the index by at most ±5% for single stocks and ±3% for ETFs and commodities. Bybit also lists gap risk: earnings or major news can make prices jump and trigger liquidation. For stock perpetual fees across exchanges, see tokenized stock perp fee comparison.
How TradFi volume counts toward VIP
Per the Bybit VIP Program page (updated 2026-07-30), CFD volume is converted into derivatives volume for VIP: metals are divided by 60, commodities other than oil are also divided by 60, and oil, forex, indices and stocks are divided by 15. Bybit's example is $15 million of oil volume counting as $1 million. TradFi Perpetual volume counts directly as derivatives volume. The TradFi Combo bot FAQ instead says TradFi volume counts at one tenth ($100 million counted as $10 million); the two pages disagree, so go by the VIP page and your actual tier.
How to open an MT5 CFD account
Verify your identity
CFDs require Standard individual verification or business verification. On Bybit, a driver's licence, a passport and an ID card can each verify one account.Apply for the MT5 CFD account
in the app, tap TradFi at the bottom, select CFD, tap Apply, then read and accept the terms. Only a main account can open one.Transfer funds in
Assets → Account → MT5 CFD → Transfer In. You can move USDT or BYUSDT, shown 1:1 as USDx. USDx isn't a cryptocurrency and can't be deposited or withdrawn directly.Switch to Tight-Spread if you want it
once cumulative deposits reach $3,000 and you have no orders or positions, change it under Account Mode in the account details.Trade and transfer out
profit and loss always settle in USDT; on the way out, USDT can go to the Funding Account or the Unified Trading Account, BYUSDT only to the Unified Trading Account.
Other rules: an MT5 CFD account with no balance, orders or positions for 3 months is archived automatically and must be unarchived before transfers (MT5 CFD account guide, updated 2026-10-09). With open positions, the amount you can transfer out excludes margin, and the weekend margin ratio is 2, so less is available at weekends. CFD credit from campaigns can't be withdrawn; after a deposit, transfers out reduce credit proportionally, and transferring out without ever depositing forfeits all credit. MT5 also supports Expert Advisors (EAs); Bybit notes that MT5 uses 3-character currency codes, so USDT is written UST.
Our example: what one gold trade costs
Our own assumptions, trading fees only, excluding spread, swap and funding:
| Case | Trading fee | 40% rebate, if counted |
|---|---|---|
| MT5 CFD, Tight-Spread mode, open 0.5 lots of gold (XAUUSD+) | 0.5 × 6 = 3 USDx, charged at opening | 1.2 USDT |
| MT5 CFD, Zero-Fee mode, the same 0.5 lots | No separate fee; the cost is in the spread | No fee to rebate |
| TradFi gold perpetual, 10,000 USDT notional opened and closed, both as taker | 20,000 × 0.055% = 11 USDT | 4.4 USDT |
| Same, both as maker | 20,000 × 0.02% = 4 USDT | 1.6 USDT |
Bybit's fee page doesn't say how many ounces one gold lot represents; check the Specification window in MT5 and convert to notional before comparing with the perpetual. The rebate column assumes these fees show up in your rebate records. Zero-Fee mode has no separate fee, and the spread itself is not a trading fee.
Does TradFi trading earn a rebate? What Bybit's official text says
- Affiliate terms (Bybit Affiliate Program Terms, effective 2026-09-01), section 9.1: commissions are based on fees paid by "eligible Clients", after deducting discounts offered to certain groups, fees paid to third-party market makers and Other Fees (third-party trading tool fees, bonuses and so on). There is no product list and no mention of CFDs, MT5 or TradFi.
- Affiliate FAQ (Affiliate Program FAQ, updated 2026-09-19): the base is "trading fees − market maker rebates − bonuses/coupons", again with no products named.
- How the Referral Program words it (Referral Program FAQ, updated 2026-10-10; this is the program for regular users inviting friends, separate from the affiliate program Fee Otter uses): a "First Time Trade" can be a TradFi CFD trade, but the task volume calculation lists Spot, Derivatives, Options, Alpha, Odds, Convert and Direct Stocks without CFDs, and a qualified referee needs $500 in spot/derivatives or $100,000 in TradFi CFD volume. Bybit treats CFDs separately from derivatives in that program, but this can't be carried over to the affiliate program.
In short: TradFi Perpetuals generate regular USDT perpetual fees; Bybit doesn't say whether Tight-Spread CFD commissions count; Zero-Fee mode charges no separate fee. Check your rebate records: Fee Otter's rebate dashboard lists each day's fees and rebates line by line, so you can verify after a few days of trading, and support can help if anything looks off. Swaps, funding, spreads and dividend adjustments are not trading fees and aren't covered.
