The Fee Otter referral code (invite code) for Bitfinex is JF82UK9L8. Sign up with it and Bitfinex refunds 6% of the platform fees you pay on margin funding and Bitfinex Borrow. The rate drops by 0.5 percentage points every 30 days and reaches zero after about 12 months. Trading itself has been fee-free since 17 December 2025, so this 6% has nothing to do with trading fees (verified 12 October 2026).
Many sites describe Bitfinex as offering a "6% invite code rebate", which makes it sound like a discount on trading fees. Under Bitfinex's current affiliate terms, the 6% only applies to lending-related fees. This article covers what the 6% actually refunds, how much you can get back, and who Bitfinex suits.
What is the Bitfinex referral code?
The invite code is JF82UK9L8. It's already built into the referral link below.
You can only enter the invite code when you create your account. Bitfinex's affiliate terms offer no way to add one after signing up or to change your referrer, and they prohibit counting existing Bitfinex users as new referrals (Bitfinex Affiliate Program Terms, version of 10 December 2025). Since 19 December 2024, residents of the European Economic Area can no longer join the affiliate program as new referrals.

So why does everyone online say 6%? An older Bitfinex help page said referrals "get a 6% rebate" when they sign up, back when trading still had fees (September 2025 archive). After the switch to zero fees in December 2025, affiliate earnings tied to trading fees stopped applying (Bitfinex announcement).
Trading fees: 0 for spot, margin and futures
Since 17 December 2025, Bitfinex has charged zero maker and taker fees on spot, margin, derivatives, securities and OTC trading. There's no volume threshold, and you don't need to hold the platform token (Bitfinex fee page, zero-fee trading page). Before that, regular users paid 0.10% maker and 0.20% taker on spot (October 2025 archive). The trading fee discount for holding LEO was dropped at the same time, and LEO discounts now only apply to lending fees.
With no trading fees, there are no trading fees to rebate. Your trading cost on Bitfinex is 0 whether or not you use an invite code.
Lending fees and an example rebate
Bitfinex's lending market is peer-to-peer. You lend assets such as USDt, USD or BTC to margin traders and set your own rate, term (2 to 120 days) and amount, with a minimum of USD 150 equivalent. Interest accrues every second and is credited daily at around 01:30 UTC (Bitfinex margin lending page). Bitfinex takes a 15% platform fee on interest earned, or 18% on hidden offers. Borrowers don't pay a platform fee.
Using the USDt lending rate on 12 October 2026 of 0.01419% per day (about 5.2% a year), here's what lending 10,000 USDt for 30 days looks like:
| Item | Calculation | Amount (USDt) |
| Interest | 10,000 × 0.01419% × 30 | About 42.6 |
| Bitfinex platform fee | 42.6 × 15% | About 6.39 |
| Month 1 refund (6% falling to 5.5%, average about 5.75%) | 6.39 × 5.75% | About 0.37 |
| Month 12 refund | Rate close to 0 | Close to 0 |
Rate source: Bitfinex public API. Lending rates change daily. The 6% rebate amounts to very little. Lenders get more out of comparing the lending rate itself, and the 15% platform fee against other exchanges' earn products. For a comparison of earn yields across exchanges, see our exchange earn comparison.
So why use Bitfinex at all?
- Zero fees on all trading: it's 0 at any volume. On other exchanges you still pay part of the fee even after a rebate.
- Peer-to-peer lending market: most exchanges set the rate on their earn products. Bitfinex lets lenders set their own rate and term.
- USD trading pairs: according to CoinGecko, the top pairs by volume are USDT/USD, ETH/USD and BTC/USD, with direct quotes in US dollars.
- Margin and futures: margin trading goes up to 10x (BTC/USD), and perpetual futures go up to 100x across more than 60 markets, operated by Bitfinex Derivatives El Salvador (margin trading page, derivatives page).
- Paper trading accounts: you can open several paper accounts to practice without depositing.
If you mainly trade futures on other exchanges and care about fee rebates, Fee Otter's rebates on other exchanges range from 20% to 70%. See our exchange fee rebate comparison.
Sign-up and identity verification
Bitfinex has four verification levels: Basic, Basic Plus, Intermediate and Full. A Basic account can currently only browse, and upgrading to Basic Plus takes under 5 minutes. Margin trading requires Intermediate. Deposit and withdrawal limits for each level are shown on your Bitfinex account page.
Under the Bitfinex Terms of Service (version of 12 August 2026), Bitfinex does not serve US persons, Canadians, Japanese and UK residents who don't qualify for an exemption, or residents of places such as Cuba, North Korea, Iran, Syria and Crimea. Derivatives also exclude residents of South Africa, Spain and the British Virgin Islands.
On Fee Otter, Bitfinex is currently offered through a referral link only, and you can't bind your UID. Bitfinex pays the 6% directly; it doesn't go through Fee Otter.
Deposits and withdrawals
Crypto and stablecoin deposits are free. Bank wire deposits cost 0.1% (minimum USD or EUR 60), withdrawals 0.1% (minimum 100 USD or EUR), and express wires 1% (minimum 125 USD or EUR). Transfers to other Bitfinex users are free (Bitfinex fee page). USDt is supported on several chains, including Ethereum, Tron, Solana and TON. Withdrawal fees for each chain are shown on the withdrawal page.
Bitfinex's history and risks
- 2016 hack: on 2 August 2016, hackers stole about 119,754 BTC from Bitfinex. Bitfinex spread the loss across all users and issued BFX tokens to cover it, then redeemed all of them at USD 1 each by 3 April 2017 (Bitfinex announcement). In 2022 the US government recovered about 94,643 BTC, and the process of returning it is under way in court (US court filing).
- New York Attorney General settlement: in February 2021, Bitfinex and Tether paid USD 18.5 million to settle and agreed to stop serving New York users. The New York Attorney General said the two companies are owned and controlled by the same small group of people (New York Attorney General press release).
- CFTC penalties: fined USD 75,000 in 2016 and USD 1.5 million in 2021 for offering unlicensed margin trading to US users (CFTC press release).
- Licensing: Bitfinex says it obtained a digital asset service provider licence in El Salvador in May 2026 (Bitfinex announcement). Its CoinGecko trust score is 8/10.
- Proof of reserves: Bitfinex published a list of wallet addresses in November 2022. We found no regular third-party proof-of-reserves reports since then.
- Don't keep large, long-term holdings on an exchange: keep only the funds you're actively trading or lending on the exchange, and store long-term holdings in a hardware wallet.
